Michael T. Mitchell
PMG Founder and Chair
Michael T. Mitchell is the founder of Practice Management Group, LLC, (PMG).
Immediately upon graduation from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting, Michael was employed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield as an auditor for their Medicare program with a focus on hospital and nursing facilities. As a result of this experience and exposure, Michael developed an intricate knowledge of the reimbursement system medical practices and providers depend upon.
Subsequent to his BCBS employment, and although he was considered very young for the position, it was no surprise to those who knew and worked with Michael, he was offered and accepted the position as Chief Financial Officer for a multi-hospital system. He was in this position for over eight years and in this capacity he held direct responsibility for business and personnel management.
It was during his term as CFO that he experienced first-hand the satisfaction involved in helping those who’s career was helping others, healthcare providers. Michael personally worked and assisted providers as they established practices and embarked on a new aspect of their career. He was dealing with everything from locating office space to creating the provider’s initial business systems.
His future endeavors allowed him to utilize his education and experience in the field of accounting when he served as a financial and accounting consultant to numerous medium-sized businesses and medical practices.
Finally, over 20 years ago, Michael formed a practice management company. His goal was to help providers focus on their ultimate goal of helping those in need.
Michael’s other accomplishments over the years have included the completion of numerous graduate courses in business and financial management, federal income taxation, and information systems management. He has also completed extensive continuing education in healthcare financial management, and served on the editorial review board for the Healthcare Financial Management Journal.
